Check out this fish Scott Mitchell from Australia caught in Papua New Guinea. A Spot Tail Bass worth bragging about. Scott is an outfitter in Australia's Snowy Mountain region funnily enough it is called the ALPINE ANGLER Scotto has been spending a lot of time over the last few years traveling the globe racking up a lot of different species like many of those folks whom drop by here at R&R . Have a look at his report on Harro's Chatboard

Just back from a fantastic trip to Baia Lodge in East New Britian PNG.The main goal was to land a few black & spot-tail bass any way we could ( Being hailed as the toughest fish on the planet  )BUT I was keen to get one on fly as well

The scenery in New Britian is stunning - this is the largest active volcano in New Britian - Ulluwan ( Is this the same area you fished Harro ? )

The Baia Lodge is fantastic - and a credit to Riccard and his team considering it's remote location.

The fishing was awsome - with our group landing 57 black & spot-tail bass in 3 days ( A new lodge record )- mostly on conventional heavy baitcasting tackle with 50lb & 80lb braid and Rapala Skitter pop's.To see a BIG bass take a surface lure is unforgetable

To see one take a FLY popper is just unbelievable

Got the kinks out of the custom made RIO 70lb core floating #12 wht line - with Stren 80lb tippet. Not with-out my share of line burns

This was the highlight of the trip - 35lb Spot-tail bass on the Fly ( Possibly the largest caught on fly tackle   )

Also managed a 32lb black on conventional - and a few others over 18lb.Had a great bunch of blokes with me as well - "Tumby" Tom, "Hopper Stopper" Burnie & BOY - "how's That Son "

If you NEED to catch a black bass any way you can - Baia is the place - Thank for an amazing trip Riccard, Steve, Jacob,Chris,Otto,Terrance and your tream

Regards Scotto
