Its on again folks!! You meet all sorts of good people in Mexico and one we have become friends with during the last five years is Dan Dryer of Baja-Anglers. Dan rang me this morning to remind me of the upcoming tournament that he organizes in Cabo San Lucas. Its a interesting concept tournament that alots double points to fly anglers! Please check out the following release and information>>
Fellow Fly Angler:
We would like to take this opportunity to personally invite you to enter the upcoming MERCURY LIGHT LINE & FLY TOURNAMENT scheduled for July 21-24, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Last year, the winner of our event was decided in the final minutes. Three teams were tied for the lead -- one team of conventional light tackle anglers and two fly fishing teams. The Cali family fly team had a marlin hooked up with only half an hour before "lines out". Heart break! The fish jumped off after 15 minutes of hook up. The fly team of Joe Dowdell and Ken St. Germain stepped forward at our awards banquet and collected big checks as winners in the fly category and winners overall. Joe earned the top individual angler award and collected a $5,000 Rolex submariner watch, as well. Most important all fishing was conducted in a high spirit of camaraderie and good sportsmanship. With IGFA Certified Observer People rotating on board all participating boats, everyone was fishing by exactly the same rules.
Because both fly anglers and conventional light line anglers finished tied in total catch and release points on bill fish, everyone felt our system of double points to fly fishers gave all entrants an equal chance to win. Significantly, conventional anglers won the "big fish" awards for largest dorado, tuna and wahoo captured.
Most important, comments from all participants indicated great satisfaction with the character and quality of the tournament location, the quality of
fishing, accommodations and the many tournament events and receptions daily.
We know your high level of fishing skill puts you in a position to win this event and qualify for the Rolex Tournament of Champions. Do review the attached copy of our tournament ad appearing in the current edition of SPORT FISHING and the May FLY FISHING IN SALT WATERS magazines. Let's talk. This tournament event was great fun for all last year and promises to be more so in 2004. Marlin, dorado, tuna and wahoo are waiting for you in Cabo San Lucas -- July 21-24. Our entry fee of $3000 per team (up to four anglers) is largely shared by the winners in the light line category, the fly fishing category and the overall winners for bill fish catch and release. Cash awards go to big fish catches of dorado, tuna and wahoo, too.
