Wild Fires in Australia

A moment to recognize all those who suffer because of the fires in Australia.

As a flyfisherman, contributor and fire investigator by trade, I wanted to take a moment to recognize the horrific fires that are raging in Australia. Over the past couple years I have been fortunate enough to develop friendships with some Aussies like Randall and the boys at Carpenteria Seafaris and wanted to let them and all Australians know our thoughts and prayers are with you.

The trip lived up to it's reputation with many different fish landed. I even managed one of the Permit...a baby....but as head guide and Permit Guru Al Simson told me "ANY permit counts". I definitely want to visit the Seafaris and crew again to add some more species to my list. See all of Greg's  6ft 7inch frame dwarf this fish by clicking read more.

Broad Profiled Flies for Big Fish

This article is about the Broadside Minnow a fly designed to imitate broad profiled baitfish.
In general, big fish eat big prey which means that broad profiled baitfish are high on the menu for predators from Largemouth Bass to Sailfish. The scientific term for a broad profiled fish is fusiform, meaning wide in the middle and tapered at both ends. Many of the baitfish that predator fish prey on such as shad and herrings have fusiform bodies.
