The Winston Fly Rod Company are looking at possibly outsourcing the production of their low end fly fishing rods. Employees of Winston are urging the company to keep all the range "Made in the USA" and Montana in particular.
Many of the the low end or maybe better referred to as "cheaper priced" rods seem to come from China. With the introduction into the mix of companies such as TFO whom offer good quality entry level rods that the general fishing community has apparently embraced, many established rod makers are now offering lower price point rods. Sage of course has now the Reddington branding and others such as Albright tackle,Sigler, Abel , Powell and others have tremendous deals available for those looking to save some pennies. The internet is also causing some change within the industry with many companies now selling their product direct to the public via online stores.
Winston Rods from what I can understand from the news articles, claims that booming business has them at capacity, requiring them to move this part of the operation overseas.
Much has been in the news of late about outsourcing. The huge telecommunications "customer service centers" based in India come to mind.
